1. Can I use my Gaiyo Card to travel on international trains?
No, the Gaiyo Card can only be used for travel within the Netherlands. A separate international ticket is always required for international trains (such as Eurostar, Thalys/Eurostar, or IC Brussels).
2. Are there any exceptions, such as the ICE?
Yes. You can travel on ICE trains within the Netherlands without paying a surcharge (e.g., Amsterdam – Utrecht – Arnhem).
However, as soon as you cross the border into Germany with the ICE, you will need a separate international ticket.
3. What about the Eurostar and other high-speed trains?
- Eurostar (Amsterdam – Brussels – London/Paris): only with a separate international ticket; the Gaiyo Card is not valid here.
- Thalys/Eurostar and IC Brussels: a separate ticket is also required here.
4. Where can I buy international tickets?
International tickets (ICE to Germany, Eurostar to Brussels, London or Paris, IC Brussels to Belgium, etc.) can be booked via the Gaiyo business support helpdesk:
- Email: business-support@gaiyo.com
- Call: 0900-6624649
In short: the Gaiyo Card is only valid within the Netherlands. For cross-border travel, you always need a separate international ticket, which you can easily arrange via the Gaiyo business support helpdesk.
