The Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) recommends that you always conceal your social security number when sharing a copy or photo of your ID.

3. How do I conceal my BSN number?

• Make sure your BSN number is illegible (for example, by covering it up).
• Make sure that the other details remain visible, such as:
  • Your passport photo
  • Your name
  • Your driver’s license number
  • Your expiration date

4. Why is it important to conceal your BSN?

The BSN is sensitive personal data and is not used by Gaiyo to verify your driver’s license. By covering it up, you prevent misuse of your personal data.

In short: you do not need to provide your BSN number. Cover it up.
