2. How does it work in practice?

3. Are there any exceptions?

• A surcharge is mandatory for travel on the Intercity Direct (Schiphol – Rotterdam). You can purchase this at the surcharge kiosk or as an e-ticket via the Gaiyo App.
• The Gaiyo Card is not valid for international trains (such as Eurostar, Thalys/Eurostar, IC Brussels, and ICE to Germany). You will always need a separate international ticket for these.
• Domestic travel on the ICE is surcharge-free and therefore permitted.
